About | Gayatri Danthuri

I am Gayatri Danthuri (b. 1986, Hyderabad, India), a printmaker based in Hyderabad. I primarily work with woodcut and aquatint techniques. I completed my Bachelor of Fine Arts at Potti Sreeramulu Telugu University, Hyderabad, and my Master of Fine Arts in Printmaking at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda.

Since 2008, I have worked under the guidance of Padma Shri Jyoti Bhatt. My work has been exhibited in India and internationally, including at the State Art Gallery, Anant Art Gallery, Indian Art Fair, and the Premio Acqui Biennale Internazionale per Incisione, Italy.

My practice explores ideas of identity, memory, and the evolving relationship between humans and nature through the medium of printmaking. I primarily work with woodcut and aquatint, drawn to the slow, tactile, and physically demanding processes that these techniques require.

Natural forms and textures play a central role in my work, serving as metaphors for human experiences and emotions that are often difficult to articulate. By merging the human body with elements from the natural world, my images reflect themes of transformation, life cycles, fragility, and renewal. Through this process, I seek to bridge personal narratives with collective memory, creating a visual dialogue between the self and the environment we inhabit.
